Magalenha has been the opening piece for every Rhythm 'N
Motion show since 2005. Grounded in Umfundalai, a
contemporary pan-African technique, the Opener is our way
of connecting the past to our present. Through this piece, we
celebrate the community and family that RnM strives to be.
Thank you to our predecessors who have passed down their
love and joy through several generations of the Opener.

To our new members, welcome. To our audience, welcome
back. To our alumni, welcome home. We hope you enjoy the
mix of Afro-Brazilian beats, the rhythms of the West African
movement, and the spirit of the African Diaspora.
