Lyrics:
A special cell division
for sexual reproduction
Meiosis happens to
an entire organism to reproduce
With two cell divisions, the
Daughter cells vary genetically
Four daughter cells made when finished
created from a single parent
They’re new daughter cells, although
Each one has half the chromosomes
Haploid, half the chromosomes only
produce sex cells we call gametes
The first part is Meiosis I
Homologous chromosomes split up
Prophase chromosomes x-shaped structures
Two sister chromatids, identical
Copies pair up together
Exchange bits of DNA
A process called recombination
also crossing over
Metaphase, pairs line up next
and gather into the center
Opposite poles, centrioles
Meiotic spindles, then
Anaphase I, chromosomes are pulled
Apart to opposite spindle poles
Telophase and cytokinesis
Each pole, has set of chromosomes gathering
Membrane forms, creates nuclei
23 chromosomes each, completed divide
CHORUS:
Two times, cells divide
half the chromosomes, they’re called haploid
Four new cells are constructed
In sex cells, it’s Meiosis
Two times, cells divide
half the chromosomes, they're called haploid
Pro, Meta, Ana, Telophase
Pro, Meta, Ana, Telophase
Two times, cells divide
half the chromosomes, they’re called haploid
Four new cells are constructed
In sex cells, it’s Meiosis
Two times, cells divide
half the chromosomes, they're called haploid
Pro, Meta, Ana, Telophase
Pro, Meta, Ana, Telophase
Meiosis one’s finished
Two daughter cells, and each with
23 chromosomes
Ready to split once more so
Meiosis two begins
Both cells divide again
Interkinesis arranged
Prophase, chromosomes x-shaped
Metaphase, chromatids are lined up
Anaphase, move apart to the opposite
Telophase, then cytokinesis
Four new cells, it’s meiosis
CHORUS:
Two times, cells divide
half the chromosomes, they’re called haploid
Four new cells are constructed
In sex cells, it’s Meiosis
Two times, cells divide
half the chromosomes, they're called haploid
Pro, Meta, Ana, Telophase
Pro, Meta, Ana, Telophase
Two times, cells divide
half the chromosomes, they’re called haploid
Four new cells are constructed
In sex cells, it’s Meiosis
Two times, cells divide
half the chromosomes, they're called haploid
Pro, Meta, Ana, Telophase
Pro, Meta, Ana, Telophase
