Kishore Mahbubani, a former UN Security Council President and Distinguished Fellow at NUS's Asia Research Institute, offers profound insights into the shifting balance of global power. With his unique perspective on Singapore’s strategic role and ASEAN’s potential, Mahbubani illuminates how we can harness these insights to foster regional stability and promote a more inclusive world. Kishore Mahbubani has achieved plenty of “firsts” in his two distinct careers, in diplomacy (1971 to 2004) and in academia (2004 to 2019). In diplomacy, he was the first Singapore Ambassador to serve on the UN Security Council. As an academic, he was the first Singaporean to write for globally renowned journals and newspapers like the New York Times and the Financial Times. Mahbubani continues to write and think prolifically about the rise of Asian powers in the 21st century, having launched the Asian Peace Programme in 2020 and authored two internationally acclaimed books since 2020– Has China Won? and The Asian 21st Century. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
