On a cold winter’s night in 2001, an Iberia A320 flying from Barcelona to Bilbao encountered a new phenomenon just before touchdown, which threatened the safety of all 136 passengers and 7 crew. How had Airbus not known about this fault, and what role did the weather have to play?

This incident raised serious questions about the Airbus philosophy, and about the proper role of humans in aircraft cockpits. Did the Airbus computers try to crash this plane?

Special thanks to Airbus pilots Hans Bos and Steve Uniacke for their invaluable help in researching the Fly-by-wire portions of this video, and for providing expert context.
