We had two GIANT trees from our back neighbors' yard fall into our backyard about 3 hours apart when tropical storm Helene came through on Friday morning, taking out about half of the trees/landscaping on our side of the property line. Wasn't even that windy at the time, it had mostly passed by then.

The first was a little after 8a. The second tree fell at around 11a, while I was out taking photos of the first tree's damage for the tree guy... I was out near the retaining wall, and froze as I watched it come down right toward me. If it had knocked down the tree nearer to me on the hill that it fell into I would have been a goner. But even with it not quite reaching me, I was close enough to be hit by the strong blast of pine/leaf scented air from the impact. That was something!

I've always called the backyard here the Land of the Giants. Everything is bigger than you think it is when you go back down there. The tip of the Leyland Cypress (the Christmas tree looking one) is higher than I am tall when I stand next to it, as is the "little" brown bush just to its right that it just missed. The root ball of the tree (the one that almost took me out) way in the back is at least 10' high. The roundish bushes on the hill over the retaining wall are around 12' - 13' high from the ground. The video/photos don't convey the magnitude/size. Yeah, trees are big.

The tree crew will take 3 days to clean up what came down (up to the property line) and clear from the wall all the way to the left/back corner so we can rebuild/relandscape from scratch. There's not much left to work with. That's scheduled for Oct 8 - 10. Then this winter, we'll put in something new to hide the mess on the other side of the line (which I'm pretty sure will not be cleaned up by the neighbors) and rebuild.

No audio for this video. Too much else going on to come up with something. Put on your favorite song if you watch...
