We decided to camp at Custer State Park in South Dakota on our road trip in 2020. We heard they had amazing hiking there so we had to check it out on our way to Grand Teton National Park. We didn't have a campsite booked very far in advance, but got lucky in getting a site near Sylvan Lake. My advice would be to book well in advance otherwise you may not get a campsite.

Custer State Park was much more beautiful than I anticipated. From the incredible views high atop the rocks, to the calm waters of Sylvan Lake, it was a place we will be back to visit more of. The Black Elk Peak hike is incredible and you can see footage of our hike in this video.

If you have any recommendations on places to see in Custer State Park or have any questions about the park, let us know in the comments below!
