5 Weeks Pregnant: What Happens To Your Baby?
In this week the baby has developed into something that looks like a small tadpole, with arms and legs. The heart is already beating and blood is flowing through the body. The body is quickly formed and from this week on, the development of the brain and central nervous system will also start.

At 0.4mm and less than 1 gram, your baby is just as big as a poppy seed, as light as a feather, and looks just like a tiny tadpole.
5 Weeks Pregnant: What Happens To You And Your Body?
Starting this week there will be a lot of changes in your body, and you will soon notice that. In this week, you will already notice the main symptom. You will not have a period. This usually is the first recognizable sign that you are pregnant. You can take a pregnancy test when you are 5 weeks pregnant to confirm your pregnancy. The test measures the amount of hCG in your blood. This pregnancy hormone increases rapidly in the first few weeks of your pregnancy.
Symptoms in week 5 of your pregnancy
Nauseous when you are 5 weeks pregnant
If you are 5 weeks pregnant there is a good chance that you will suffer from nausea. Some women are just nauseous, while others actually vomit. In any case, it is an annoying complaint, which can make you weak and dizzy. Many women experience nausea especially in the morning. It is recommended to eat a cracker or something similar before getting out of bed. This way you already have something in your stomach before you stand up straight.
Spitting through a lot of saliva when you are 5 weeks pregnant
You can also suffer from excessive saliva this week, which makes you prefer to spit out the extra saliva. There are women where this continues for weeks. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about this and it is only a matter of time before this nuisance fades.
A tummy or abdominal pain in week 5 of your pregnancy
When you are 5 weeks pregnant, the embryo in your belly is only a few millimeters in size. However, you might already have the idea that your belly has become thicker this week. Your belly can swell up a bit due to the production of pregnancy hormones. This can, among other things, get your intestines confused and that can lead to a bloated stomach. This can also cause abdominal pain.

Do when you are 5 weeks pregnant: looking for a midwife
if you got pregnant naturally, the first appointment with the midwife will only be scheduled if you are between 6 and 10 weeks pregnant. Until then, so much can still happen and go wrong and so it’s still too early to go for a check. Alternatively, if you got pregnant with the help of, for example, ivf, the first appointment will be scheduled earlier. There is a good chance that an internal ultrasound will be made in the first weeks of your (possible) pregnancy to see whether the treatment has been successful.
If you don't have an obstetrician in mind yet, it is advisable to do some research this week. Also inquire with your health insurer about contracts and reimbursements.
