In 2005 after doing an elective module as a medical student in the Transkei, I was amazed by the number of people in dire need of medical care, the beautiful new health infrastructure, the fantastic natural beauty of the area, BUT the total lack of medical personnel (Nurses, Doctors, Occupational Therapists, Physio Therapists, Parmasists, Speech Therapists etc.

A year later a bunch of us went back there to make a film to expose the situation to other medical personnel. We figured: 'If we did not know, who knows...? If you don't know, you won't go.'

Getting Rural Right is a 40 min honest, realistic documentary on the health care in the Transkei.

Wh have screened it at a RuDASA conference, orientation and introduction functions of the Eastern Cape Department of Health, University of Stellenbosch, University of Cape Town, showed to friends and family, Professors and children and it always gets positive, enthusiastic feedback.

We hope that the friends of this site will help to spread the word and the good work and by doing so it would improve the health of the people of the Transkei.
