In 2017, Apple celebrated the iPhone's 10th anniversary with the iPhone X. Now, there's speculation that they might do something similar for the Apple Watch. According to reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning a thinner version of the Apple Watch, possibly inspired by the ultrathin 2024 iPad Pro design."
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the Apple Watch Series 10 will feature a thinner body and come in larger sizes, specifically 45mm and 49mm, compared to the current 41mm and 45mm options. We've seen CAD renders suggesting a two-inch display, slightly larger than the 1.93-inch Apple Watch Ultra. The dimensions might be around 46 x 39.7 x 11.6mm, making it larger than the Series 9 but smaller than the Ultra.
Apple is also exploring new ways for bands to attach to the watch. A potential magnetic attachment system could free up space used by current band cutouts, allowing for a slimmer case. However, this new system might not be compatible with older bands, which have been compatible since the watch's launch in 2015. Whether this feature will debut with the Apple Watch X is still unclear.
The Apple Watch X might feature an updated OLED display that's more power-efficient, improving battery life. Additionally, it could have a resin-coated copper logic board, enhancing durability and water resistance while allowing for a thinner design and more internal space for other components.
Apple is also working on new health features. Blood pressure monitoring might be included, though it's still in development. This feature could inform users if their blood pressure is trending upward but won't provide specific readings. Sleep apnea detection, based on sleep data and breathing patterns, is also planned but might be delayed due to patent issues with the blood oxygen sensor. As for blood glucose monitoring, it's a feature Apple aims to include by the end of the decade.
While it's not clear if the Apple Watch X will release in 2024 or 2025, the 10th anniversary marks a significant milestone.
