My wife and I have been married for 5 years, and we have been so busy that we have not been able to go on our honeymoon, but this time we decided to take the plunge and go on a motorcycle trip to Hokkaido.

This time, we headed north along the "Oloron Line," a road with spectacular scenery known only to those in the know, and camped at Shumarinai Lake on the way. The Oloron Line is a 380-km road that runs from Otaru to Wakkanai.

Our plan was to continue on to Cape Soya while gazing at the ocean, but we decided to change our route and check in at the campground first, due to the reception time at the campground.

Lake Shumarinai is so large that there are 13 islands in the lake. The white birch trees give the lake a Scandinavian atmosphere.

The fee is reasonable at 1000 yen/person, and the restrooms are clean, so we had no complaints. However, it takes about 40 minutes one way to the supermarket for shopping, so we recommend that you do your shopping beforehand.

Originally, we planned to stop by Cape Soya and then go to Shumarinai-ko Campground, but due to the gas station and time constraints, we decided to postpone Cape Soya for later.

As a result, we decided to reschedule our return boat trip and stay an extra day.

Hokkaido is too big.
