How do you prevent mouth sores from radiation?
1) Good oral hygiene,
2) Avoiding irritating or abrasive substances,
3) use of Soda and Saline gargles / rinses,
4) Topical anesthetic agents, and systemic analgesics.
5) Keep your self hydrating
6) Use fluoride toothpaste
7) Maintain Good Nutrition
What makes mucositis worse?
Factors that can increase the likelihood of developing mucositis, or that can make it worse if it does occur,
include: -Poor oral or dental health.
Smoking or chewing tobacco
drinking alcohol.
Dehydration.
What are the things that you have to keep in mind if you are about to start radiation for dental cancer or Head & Neck Cancer?
ЁЯСЙ First of all, you should get your dental check-up done. If there is any problem in your teeth or gums, then get it treated before starting radiation.
ЁЯСЙ Second,you have to pay a lot of attention to your nutrition. If you are not able to eat or drink anything at all, then get a tube inserted from the nose or stomach beforehand.
ЁЯСЙ Third,During and after up to 12 weeks, maintain excellent oral hygiene for optimal dental health.
ЁЯСЙ Fourth,You have to take pain management consultation, If you have persistent pain before or during radiation, you should seek proper pain management consultation.
ЁЯСЙ And the last You should not ignore exercises. You have to do proper exercise by meeting your physiotherapist and those onco physiotherapist.
