This is the short version of a long thought out synopsis of mine. A longer version of this video should release some time later this month (October).

Why am I writing this? Well, it started when I tried to get into the DC fandom. For a long time, I had been an MCU fan, and it made me appreciate Superheroes like I never had before. I watched every single film in the Infinity Saga (except for Captain Marvel). Getting into the comics themselves always felt like a daunting prospect, but the films made it easier to approach, and a lot more fun. The same couldn’t be said for DC. Even us “Normies” and “Casuals” know that DC media content has a long history of peaking and then plummeting at a moment’s notice. From the Nolan Batman films to the recently discontinued (rebooted?) Animated Movie Universe, and the failed DCEU, and now James Gunn’s reboot of said DCEU. Not only has the quality been inconsistent, but the stories and timelines and continuity have been as well. In no area can I illustrate this point more clearly than with the stories of the five Robins. Never once have all five stories been told in one storyline before. The writers always pick and choose for one reason or another, and typically one or more of the Robins gets dropped or repurposed or they never get around to them. So I looked into the comics… and discovered they had their own continuity and reboot problems. The circular nature of western comic books in general I find infuriating. It’s no wonder Manga has been overtaking them as of late. When a Manga comes out, it’s one focused story, written by one author, illustrated by that author and a team of helpers, with a beginning, middle, and end. When you pick up a western comic, you aren’t picking up a story, you’re picking up a “run.” That is to say, one author out of many have stepped up to take their swing at making “a” Batman story, or “a” Green Lantern story, usually with multiple different artists with their own different art styles and character designs. It’s never one clear story from beginning to end, namely because there is no end. The characters aren’t characters, they’re a brand. Toys and posters and t-shirts. Batman will never get married because he’s most marketable when he’s in his peak Batman phase. No character will stay dead because it will mean a decrease in sales. Raven will never be able to escape the pit of the Teen Titans and be her own character. Yes, lots of good individual stories have been created as a result of this process, and if you enjoy reading those kinds of stories, who am I to argue with your personal preference? But as for me, I simply do not find it satisfying in the slightest. What’s the point in reading about a character who will be eternally trapped in a loop of their own life, reimagined again and again and again, with no happy ending or final rest in sight? And don’t get me started on the retcons and reboots and conflicting lore.

So… as much for myself as anyone else, I decided to take notes. Those notes became the building blocks for an outline for my very own take on a DC Animated Universe. What would I write if Warner Brothers gave me their blessing? My goal: to adapt the comics and, to the best of my ability, tell one cohesive story for each and every character, with a beginning, middle, and end. I want to try and be as faithful as I can to the source material, but some things will be changed for different reasons (though I have made a deal with myself to not make big changes unless I do have a good reason). For one example, here in this very video, you’ll notice that instead of Ares being one of Wonder Woman’s villains, he is the father of the Amazons. Why did I make that change? First of all, that’s how it is in the actual Greek legends. (I’m being true to the SOURCE source material) Second, there was a noticeable glaring problem with the Wonder Woman mythos that many authors have struggled with. How did the Amazons come into being, and how do they keep their numbers up over hundreds of years? If you ask me, there have been more misses than hits when tackling those questions over the years. So I made the decision to make the Amazons the daughters of Ares, which explains their superpowers. I wrote the Nectar Flower which grants long life to explain why they don’t need to reproduce, and I created a new villain to fill Ares’ spot in Wonder Woman’s rogues gallery. Personally, given the nature of the disturbing cults surrounding Dionysus from back in the day, I find this characterisation of him to be quite fitting. So, yes. Some things will be different, but there will be a reason.

Yes, I want to go all the way. Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern, The Justice League, and all the rest will get their own stories, mark my words. It’s been a lot to tackle, but it’s been fun. I decided to start with WW because she’s never actually had her own animated tv show before, and I wanna fix that.
