Nemmara Vallangi Vela is an annual festival celebrated at the Nellikulangara Bhagavathy Temple in Palakkad district of Kerala. The temple is located at the foothills of the Nelliyampathy Hills. The festival is organized by two villages, Nemmara Vallangi. The Vela Utsavam in Nemmara and Vallangi villages is famous for its grandeur and rituals. The friendly competition between the villages to outdo each other spices up the entire festival and many a unique sight are on display during this time, There is a huge procession of elephants from two villages to the Nellikulangara temple. Upon arrival at the temple, both groups perform panchavadhyam (traditional Kerala band). Villagers on both sides face each other below the festival tent (festival venue) and enthusiastically perform various traditional percussion ensembles to brighten each other up. The elephant tent used to house the elephants is also beautifully decorated and attracts people.
