The existence of werewolves, or at least their references date back to at least 5th century BC with a warrior named Dolon fighting for Troy in the much-debated Trojan War. Some pictures suggest that he would wear a wolf’s hide. Gaius Petronius, courtier, and author in King Nero’s court, also mentioned the same in his works during the first century BC. And then there is Peter Stumpp, the infamous 16th-century German serial killer who was brutally executed on charges of werewolfery or lycanthropy, witchcraft, and cannibalism. In fact, Peter admitted to these charges before his death. So, despite these events and the existence of werewolves in European folklore, werewolves have received less recognition compared to their mortal enemy; vampires. Naturally, there has been far less content on werewolves, which leads to disambiguate situations as far as their types are concerned. It is well-known that lycanthropy is the process by which a human turns into a shapeshifting beast, and the transformation takes full effect on full moon nights.
