For about 60 years now, the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) has assisted in the development of agriculture and agricultural industries by offering affordable credit to farmers across Kenya. The Corporation’s sole purpose is to develop agriculture through various loan products for farmers including machinery, cash crop, horticulture, water development, livestock, and agribusiness plans.

In developing countries like Kenya, agricultural finance is crucial to support the growth of the agricultural sector. Indeed, it is essential for increased food production, food security, job creation and economic growth.

Throughout its existence, AFC has participated in the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show, a national agricultural fair that brings agriculture stakeholders together in different parts of the country. At the Shows, various industry players exhibit the recent developments and technologies to farmers, in a bid to increase production and enhance food security.
This year, the ASK Show theme is “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth.”

As one of the longest-running participants in the Show, the AFC bagged three awards at the Nakuru ASK Show which commenced on the 14th of July, a testament to their continued efforts in supporting agricultural development in the country. The awards included; first position as “Best Financial Institution other than Commercial Banks”, second position overall for “Best Stand that Interprets the Current Show theme” of “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth”, and third position in the “Best Stand Exhibiting Agricultural and/or Earth-moving Equipment” category.

The official opening ceremony was presided over by various dignitaries including the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Hon. Mithika Linturi and the Governor of Nakuru County, H.E. Susan Kihika.

The AFC Managing Director, Mr. George Kubai, received the awards on behalf of the Corporation noting that they are committed to fully supporting agricultural development in the country.
