In this episode of my series “ Walks in Dorset” , I take a walk in & around the village of Sixpenny Handley in the North East of the county. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.

I parked my car at the recreation ground / village hall to the North West of the village & started my 8.5 mile circular route from the church of St Mary. After a quick wander down the main High Street, I soon headed out into the countryside, initially in a South Westerly direction to join up with the Jubiliee Trail.

At Chapel Down Farm, I headed South East, crossing the A354, to firstly the Dorset Cursus and then the ancient settlement on Gussage Down (where I had a picnic lunch!).

I then joined the Ackling Dyke – a Roman Road – heading Northwards (once again crossing the Dorset Cursus). At the top of a ridge, I crossed the B3081 & continued along the Roman Road, past the Oakley Down Barrow cemetery. My final leg took me over the A354 & back to Sixpenny Handley along the Hardy Way.

NB: I should have removed my cap when I was in the church - please accept my apologies for the oversight.
