Enjoy the spookiest music from Super Mario World, arranged for the spookiest ensemble!

Music by Koji Kondo.

Instrumentation:
Tenoroon (3)
Bassoon (5)
Contrabassoon (2)
Subcontrabassoon (1)
Tromboon (Trombone played with Contrabassoon Bocal and Reed)

Questions: Is the subcontrabassoon recording real?
A: Yes, all audio is recorded on a real prototype subcontrabassoon with no pitch correction. However, it currently lacks keywork, so each pitch had to be recorded separately and edited together (except for the 4 pairs of slurred notes, where each pair was recorded in one take by covering or opening toneholes directly).

Q: Is the tromboon recording real?
A: Yes. However, I recorded the video separately from the audio, and didn't do a perfect job syncing my slide movements. So if you see my slide not perfectly matching the audio, that's why. Also, that stupid F2 gliss at the end took like 20 tries; the instrument really doesn't want to play in that partial. (that wasn't a question, I just needed to vent)

Q: What's up with the tenoroon?
A: It's a Wolf Fg5+ (pitched a perfect fifth higher than bassoon), with a custom bocal and bell. The new bocal and bell are necessary since I'm using smaller reeds than the bassoon reeds it was designed for.

Q: Did you really buy a trombone just for this dumb video?
A: I started on trombone in sixth grade, but gave my original instrument away to a friend several years later. So yes, I did end up buying a trombone for this video. Also, shoutout to the nice woman who met me in a Walmart parking lot 4 days before I uploaded this video (2 days after I had the idea to include tromboon) and sold me her old trombone. I hope you're not too horrified at what I did with it, and was happy to hear you have a new upgraded trombone to enjoy.
