Welcome to our walking tour of Pai Canyon, also known as Kong Lan (กองแลน in Thai), a must-visit natural beauty spot when in Pai. Located just 7 kilometres from the town centre along Route 1095, it’s easily accessible by road and conveniently close to another must-see attraction, the Pai WW2 Memorial Bridge.

We arrived early in the morning, before the crowds that usually gather at sunset. With a good pair of shoes, we chose to take the old back trail—a more challenging path suited for those with sure footing, given its steeper slopes and rugged terrain. For a more relaxed walk, there's a paved, gentle path that starts just off the main highway, winding approximately 200 meters up to the summit.

As you ascend, the trail is hidden by forest until it suddenly opens up to reveal breathtaking panoramic views of lush greenery and mountains. If you’re visiting in the morning, you might be lucky enough to witness a sea of mist, adding to the canyon’s magical atmosphere.

The captivating 3.6-mile loop trail requires careful attention to your footing as you navigate the narrow ridges—there are no barriers or fences, and the sheer drops are a striking feature of this remarkable geological formation. While Kong Lan offers an exhilarating walking experience, caution is essential, as the loose, dry soil can make the trail slippery.

For us, the tranquillity of the morning is the best time to visit, allowing us to fully appreciate the serene beauty of the canyon. After your hike, there are several restaurants and spots near the car park where you can enjoy a refreshing drink.

Thank you for joining us on our scenic walking tour of Pai Canyon, Thailand. We hope you enjoyed the journey as much as we did!
