Dear western nadan family,
The malankara churches in India especially Kerala, celebrate the feast of the Nativity of Virgin Mary on September 8. Also in the month of October catholic churches across India do a special prayer and make pachore or pachoru or sarkkara choru.September 1 to 8 is the historic eight day Lent at church lead to this holy shrine and hundreds of thousands of pilgrims throng seeking favors and blessing from the Holy Mother Mary.
Esspecially Christians observed a special lent for a week in the name of St.Marys in Manarcad church. It is very popular.
On the 8th day of the lent, a part of celebrations, pachoru will be prepare and give to all devotees. Pachoru is sweet made of rice, milk and jaggery and served in the afternoon of feast day.
Today I am uploading a recipe , to make Pachoru or in some places it is called Pachore or sharkkara chore or Sweet rice.. . Traditionally, we use white rice or brown rice but I am made with parboiled rice, to accomodate those who dont have white rice or matta rice. This is a form of rice pudding using cooked rice, jaggery, ghee and coconut. Pachore or sweet rice is easy to make and a very tasty pudding recipe, it is usually made sweet. After cooking rice , jaggery is added in to the rice, stir it well then at a later stage, coconut which is grated together with sliced coconut are added. Out of all the rice puddings this is my families most favourite pudding dish. If you compared with the normal puddings this is quite thick in consistency.

Every year Pacoru Nercha is prepared in churches with solid measure of rice and proportionate amount of coconut and jaggery.
