Shrek has become a giant joke on the Internet and a funny one at that, but the original movie is actually great. The best Shrek moments are still some of the funniest movie moments in animation and Donkey is still making people laugh. But its how the movie deconstructs some of a lot of the movies people grew up, Disney and otherwise, that is much more interesting. Shrek is what happens when you throw a bit of creativity into the stagnant kettle of a genre and it still holds up.
