While Dhanurasana is practiced in many schools of yoga, it doesn’t activate the physical body in the same way as it does in Ashtanga. Do you know why?

In this tutorial, we’re showing you how to do DHANURASANA / BOW POSE and also PARSVA DHANURASANA / SIDE BOW. These classic backbending postures are practiced in Ashtanga's second series, the Intermediate Sequence. You’ll learn the traditional vinyasa cues and Sanskrit counts as David guides Jelena through the posture with additional info on the specific coordinates so you can check for proper alignment. You’ll get a step-by-step breakdown on how to access each part of the pose and tips on how to avoid injury or challenges such as knee or back pain. We’ll also show you which parts of your body need to be actively engaged to access Parsva Dhanurasana within your practice and what to do while you’re on your side.
