Climbed Mt Sefrit in the Hannegan Pass area via the SW Slope/Ridge.

Started out at Nooksack Cirque Trailhead, and a little over 2 miles in, shortly after the wooden footbridge, turned uphill and began heading upslope, following the Andy Boos route. Part of our route followed ancient remnants of another old logging road, and after a while, we began following fresh flagging tape uphill.

This was a bit of a mistake though, as the flagging tape quickly took us up into much brushier and steeper terrain than we would have liked, and we ended up losing time thrashing around in the brush, before cutting west on a short traverse to get back on Andy's route, in steep but open pine forest slopes, to reach the timberline. From the timberline at about 5600-5800 ft, we took a break, then cut obliquely up towards a big brown dirt gully, and about 100 ft below the saddle at the top of the gully, we cut left into a steeper blockier gully, and then began the serious scrambles.

We followed crag scrambles that led us into high 4th, low 5th-class terrain, for which we roped up. We eventually made the summit (although we could not find the summit register), and on the way down, found a much easier 4th class scramble route we could not see on the way up. When going up, survey around a small buttress, to find the easier scramble route to the summit. The ridge top direct is much more exposed and difficult than the slightly lower partially-obscured scramble route we found later.

Follow Andy Boos' route on the way back down, and you'll be on easy street. We came back down in the dark, and accidentally overshot the Nooksack Cirque Trail, and had to brush bash back uphill a little bit to get back to thew car.

It was a long, smoky, and somewhat humid, but very rewarding day.
