On July 1, Japan successfully launched an upgraded Earth observation satellite, ALOS-4, using its new flagship H3 rocket from the Tanegashima Space Center. The launch, which had been delayed from the previous day due to inclement weather, went smoothly, with the rocket releasing its payload approximately 16 minutes after liftoff.

The Advanced Land Observation Satellite (ALOS-4) is designed for multiple purposes, including Earth observation, disaster response, and mapmaking. Additionally, it is equipped with an infrared sensor developed by the Japanese Defense Ministry to monitor military activities, such as missile launches. This satellite is a more advanced version of its predecessor, ALOS-2, and is capable of observing a significantly larger area.

Japan plans to operate both ALOS-2 and ALOS-4 concurrently for enhanced observation capabilities. Further details about the mission are expected to be shared by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) in a news conference.
