Adam Austin, MS, PhD Candidate, Western Michigan University addresses the current knowledge gaps and conservation implications for Lesser sirens. Lesser sirens are large aquatic salamanders that haven’t been documented in Michigan for 56 years–five years after they were simultaneously discovered and presumably extirpated. In 2019, we discovered the first living sirens in Michigan.
