Toronto Arbaeen Walk - Canada

Thousands of people including children’s, elders and youths gathered at 1 Strachan Avenue to commemorate local Arbaeen walk in Toronto. Global Arbaeen walk is organized every year on the fortieth day of Ashura where 20 million people from across the globe participate and walk from Najaf to Karbala in Iraq.

Ashura is the day when Imam Husayn, (Grandson of Prophet Mohammad (saw) and a seventh century revolutionary leader) along with his seventy two companions was killed on the plain of Karbala by the tyrant Yazeed.

At the gathering point, there were speeches , spoken words and poetry's to highlight Imam Husayn’s dignified stand for social Justice and Lady Zainab’s courage and bravery in saving Islam post Ashura. The theme of this year walk was to walk on the path of Islam, manifested by Imam Hussain (a).

The participants walked from 1 Strachan Avenue to 361 University Avenue carrying placards, chanting slogans, reciting spoken words, eulogies and short speeches along the way. They carried the message of Lady Zainab, it said “ in this sacrifice and revolution, I see nothing but the beauty of God”. The youths were distributing information leaflet pertaining to Arbaeen to the passerby. At the end, all participants send their salutations to the martyrs of Karbala and vowed to remember their sacrifice and walk in their footsteps.
