This year, one in every two people on the planet will go to the polls. Elections in approximately 65 countries could serve as a great vote of confidence for democracies – but lately, it seems that the enemies of democracy have gained the upper hand in winning votes. In theory, this should be the best time for journalists to rally for their craft and showcase their role in and importance for society.

But how can you make your stories heard today, bypassing the loud voices of campaigners, spin doctors, and AI-powered deepfakes? How do you best report on politically extreme positions without giving them a disproportionate forum, while also reflecting crucial societal debates? And how do you - as a journalist - stand up to forces that actually want to abolish the free press?

Panelists:
Bay Fang, President and CEO of Radio Free Asia
Emmanuel Chenze, multimedia professional currently serving as Africa Uncensored's Chief Operating Officer
Manisha Pande is Managing Editor at Newslaundry, a leading Delhi-based news and media critique website
Madhav Chinnappa UK is a senior executive consultant who has worked at the intersection of news, technology, AI and sustainability globally
