Seamless rain gutters installed pre-2005 were commonly installed using a gutter hanger known as a spike and ferrule AKA "gutter nails". If you are tearing off old gutters, chances are that you will need to remove some spikes and ferrules to do so. In this video, you will learn the proper way to remove old rain gutters from a house.

0:38 Tools you will need to complete a gutter tear-off:

- Gloves
- Hammer
- Pry Bar

1:38 The process:

1. Remove the small gutter screws from inside the gutter that are holding the gutter corners together

2. Remove the 4 to 6 spikes from each corner and push the corner of the rain gutter down. (This helps avoid the gutter slinging up when a section is dropped. Skipping this step can lead to damage to the roof, drip edge, and shingles of the house.)

3. Remove all gutter nails EXCEPT the center spike

4. Have a helper grab one end of the gutter and pull away from the home so the gutter falls in the opposite direction of the home avoiding all windows.
