Hobbing Gears is a mesmerizing process. For spur gears, the cutting tool (Hob) needs to be rotated at just the right angle relative to the gear blank and to account for the Lead Angle of the Hob. For more complex gears such as helical gears, ...https://bit.ly/3onfQon
an additional hob rotation is also required. This is just part of the process as the RPM of the Hob and the RPM of the gear blank must be in the correct ratio to get the correct tooth count.
Hobs are sort of like grown up drill taps.
