From 2014-2022 Jose Abreu was one of the most consistent first basemen in baseball never once finishing a season below a 117 OPS+. Then, in 2020 he won one of the most prestigious individual honors in baseball in the MVP award. But flash forward to present day and he posted just a 3 OPS+ in his first 35 games of the season. Resulting in being let go by the Astros despite being owed around 30 million dollars over the next year and a half.
