This is a video showing the ins and outs of a Howard Miller tubular grandfather clock, specifically with an German Urgos movement. The clock has three separate trains, powered by three cable driven weights, and runs for one week between windings. The mechanism is a triple chime, and plays Westminster, St. Michael's, or Whittington chime, each quarter hour, followed by the hour strike at the top of the hour. The first part of the vid is from a Howard Miller for sale in our showroom, and shows its mechanism installed and chiming/striking on the tubes. The latter part of the video is a separate mechanism, of the same style/function, that was picked up for a routine maintenace on site from a house call. The clock is being test run on our test stand, to make sure the mechanism is performing at its peak, so that it can be delivered to the customer worry free and covered with a warranty. Mechanisms such as these perform best if they are lubricated on site once every 2-3 years, cleaned in shop once every 10-12, and may require bearing work every 20-30 years (conditions variable). We not only work on Urgos, but also Hermle, Kieninger, Jauch, as well as any other European manufactured units. We also do full service/restoration of Herschede, Colonial, and many other American varieties of tubular mechanisms. If you have a tubular chime clock, or any clock for that matter, call us, stop by, our visit our website @ GulfCoastClock.com .
