The Goose with the Golden Eggs

从前，有一个男人和他的妻子很幸运，他们有一只可以每天下金蛋的鹅。
Once upon a time, a man and his wife had the good fortune to have a goose which laid a golden egg every day.


尽管他们很幸运，但他们很快就开始认为他们致富的速度不够快。
Lucky though they were, they soon began to think they were not getting rich fast enough.


他们认为，如果鹅能下金蛋，那么它的内脏一定是金子做的。
They imagined that if the goose is able to lay golden eggs, its insides must be made of gold.


他们想，如果他们能一下子得到所有的贵金属，他们很快就会变得非常富有。
And they thought that if they could get all that precious metal at once, they would get mighty rich very soon.


于是这个男人和他的妻子决定杀了这只鹅。
So the man and his wife decided to kill the goose.


然而，当他们把鹅剖开时，惊讶地发现它的内脏和其他鹅的内脏一样!
However, upon cutting the goose open, they were shocked to find that its innards were like that of any other goose!
