Welcome to Simply Home and Harvest!
I’m so glad you’re here!!
Today we are making some delicious and easy homemade bread using yeast. This is not sourdough but if you want to know how to make that, I do have a video on it as well.
We’ll be making rolls and a loaf. The loaf doesn’t turns out like I wanted it to but it all works out just the same.

I just wanted to say a welcome and hello to all my new subs!! You all are amazing!
I woke up this morning and realized that we have surpassed the 3K mark and that is so exciting!!!
I’m thankful to be a part of this YouTube community and getting to chat with you all is a highlight for me. So let me know where you are watching from and I think we should celebrate this milestone with a LIVE video so be looking for that soon. I’ll keep you posted!

I’ve been a little under the weather this week which you’ll hear in my voice so other than a couple of shorts, this will be my only long form video this weekend while I recover my voice and give the body some rest.
Have a great Labor Day weekend and Lord willing I will see you all next week!

Love and Blessings!!

Homemade Bread (Makes 2 9” loaves or can be made into rolls)

1.5 Tablespoons yeast
1 1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 cup warm water

5 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups warm water

In A small bowl, mix yeast with 2 tsp sugar, then add 1/2 cup warm water. Stir until dissolved. Let rise until doubled, about 10 minutes.

In a large mixing bowl, add 5 cups flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and salt.

In the center of the flour, pour the yeast mixture and add oil and 1 1/2 cups of warm water. Mix together with a long handled wooden spoon. The dough may be shaggy. You can use your hands to get the day off the sides of the bowl. Let the dough rest for 15 minutes.

Knead until you have a smooth texture. I like to add a little flour if it’s too sticky and continue to need until I can touch the day without it sticking to my fingers.

Let your dough rise in a warm place with a light cotton cloth covering the bowl. When it has doubled in size, approximately one hour, punch the dough down. At this point you can either go ahead and bake your bread or let it rise again for another hour.

If you are ready to bake, punch your dough down. Cut into 2 sections. Shape each dough section into a loaf. Place in greased 9 x 5” loaf pans. Butter the tops, cover with a cloth, and let rise for 45 minutes or until your dough is doubled and an inch above the top of your pan.

Bake at 375°F for 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
