Just in time for Valentine’s Day! Mmmmaybe send this song as a valentine to that special someone?

“Unchained Melody” was recommended to me as a song many years ago, and a couple weeks ago someone special reminded me of the song.

I did some research on the origins of the song, and apparently, it was based off a melody from the 1955 prison film “Unchained”. Written by Alex North and Hy Zaret and originally sung in the movie by Todd Duncan, there have been over 1500 different versions made by 670 artists.

Some notable versions have been done by Les Baxter, Roy Hamilton, Al Hibbler, Jimmy Young,June Valli, and perhaps most notably, The Righteous Brothers.

Bobby Hatfield actually performed the song as a solo, and originally the song was intended only as a B-side.. and not meant to be played on Radio. But DJ’s loved the songs so much, they put it on heavy rotation and it exploded in popularity.

The song was revived in the movie “Ghost” (1990) staring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore and once again rose to prominence.

Hope you like my version!
