Zoners are probably the most divisive archetype in...well, really any game that has them. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate features quite a lot of the archetype, and today, we take a look at their designs. More specifically, we look at some of the decisions that led Ultimate's zoners to be even more frustrating than was strictly necessary, including comparisons to other platform fighters like Rivals of Aether, Slap City, and Rushdown Revolt, as well as traditional fighting games like Street Fighter V and Guilty Gear Strive.

This video features the upcoming video game Rushdown Revolt. Vortex Games, the creators of this title, recently approached me to do contracted consulting work for their team. Any future videos that feature Rushdown Revolt will include an appropriate disclaimer that outlines the specifics of their influence on the project, or lack thereof.
