"The BBC TV National News on 26th August 2021 featured the story of Will Melbourne. He described his struggle to get help for his acute mental difficulties in this video, recorded on his computer just before his death.

Will died in December 2020 and his parents set up a JustGiving page in his memory, with the money raised going towards providing safe accommodation for young people in the future who suffered similar problems. Sally and John’s words on the JustGiving page describe Will’s tragic situation:-

"Our dear son Will Melbourne died suddenly from an accidental drug overdose on the the 18 th of December 2020. He had Aspergers, ADHD and subsequent depression. He was an incredibly talented and intelligent boy but struggled with extreme social anxiety and found it hard to fit into the world. He felt suicidal and desperate so many times but was always turned away from A&E 9 times because he didn't fit into the right criteria to be admitted into hospital where he would be safe. He was still waiting over 2 years for the appropriate therapy on the NHS even when he died. Although he was in supported accommodation it fell short of the level of care needed to keep him safe. We are going to raise money to try to make a difference for these poor lost souls. The money raised will be used towards creating a safe place for these vulnerable teenagers to go in times of crisis. Ideally, it will be a walk in clinic with trained professionals who are equipped to deal with all types of mental health crises."
