Luthy's interpretation:
The narrator thinks back on a memory; of a time he had the opportunity to do whatever he wished, and remembers the idiocy of his words and the falseness of his personality. Having let go of his fortune, he seeks to obtain an alternative kind of 'wealth' but ponders whether he'll ever have the opportunity this time round to achieve his dreams. In the denouement of the song, he decides that instead of wishing for this second chance he should move ahead, living the reality rather than experiencing the dream. The opportunity was inside his heart all along, just waiting to be ignited..
