Led by Thomas LeDet (TCU), and Harris Sebastian (UH), the Mighty Jack Yates Lions complete an epic underdog comeback against Winston Churchill High and their highly heralded quarterback Cody Carlson (BU) from San Antonio, who later became the backup quarterback for Warren Moon and the Houston Oilers. With this UIL semi-finals victory in Rice Stadium, the 1981 Yates Lions became the first all black high school football team since integration to advance to the Texas UIL 5A high school football finals, representing the city of Houston and its historic Third Ward community.
