Cromwell Gorge - New Zealand
To arrest the Cairnmuir slip, massive paved terraces and hundreds of metres of drainage tunnels were constructed on the West side of the Cromwell Gorge. The Clyde Dam could not be filled until the stabilisation work was complete.
The unique feature also displays the faint outline of the protest against Contact's plan to build another high dam at Tuapeka Mouth, which will flood out many communities, including historic Beaumont.
