William Shakespeare may be the most famous English writer of all time. Called the Bard of Avon, he wrote 39 plays and 154 sonnets in his lifetime. Today his plays are performed more than those of any other playwright. He is responsible for adding about 1,700 words to the English language and continues to influence books, movies, and plays written today!
