Esperanto is a language known for being easy and structured, with many online resources available. Despite Esperanto’s unique features that can help learners make rapid progress, many courses fail to take advantage of them.
In this workshop, we will explore the “Zagreb method”, which teaches Esperanto using the 500 most frequent morphemes (=meaningful word parts), that make up 95% of spoken Esperanto. For their effective memorization, an Anki deck with all of them is provided. Grammar is taught through concrete examples, focusing only on what is necessary for basic communication. Additionally, you can choose to learn Esperanto from one of 29 languages, adding some spice to your learning.
We will dive into its first lessons together, get familiar with the basics and interactively solve exercises on our mobile devices or laptops. Advanced Esperanto learners, speakers and teachers are also welcome, as the course is licensed under copyleft and constantly improved by volunteers – so you can become one and help improve the course.
Join us for this workshop to get a headstart on your Esperanto learning, which you will be able to continue easily on your own.

Georg Jähnig grew up bilingual in Berlin, speaking both German and Polish. His love for languages and computers led him to study Computational Linguistics and become a polyglot, learning Spanish, Czech, Esperanto, Dutch, Danish, and Russian at varying levels. Georg prefers learning languages as a byproduct of doing things he enjoys, such as watching his favorite shows and visiting new places. He has a subtle but undeniable passion for accents. As a solopreneur and software developer, Georg is also involved in the rationalist community “Less Wrong,” with a particular interest in improving methods for resolving disagreements.
