Plan your floor air vents (HVAC) before remodeling.

I made a mistake on not doing that and decided to run it back and move one of my floor air vents away from being by the shower to further away to the wall.
In my case I had to cut the hole using grinder through the tile and plywood down to the crawlspace. Then you relocate your air duct to new spot preferably using new duct boot. On a spot where you had air vent prior you put wooden boards or plywood underneath from the crawlspace side and then go with a regular sequence of laying tile: hardie board - mortar - piece of tile - grout.
In a perfect world of renovations you should plan it all upfront to avoid going hard way like me.
