The monastery was founded in 1591 by Tsar Fyodor Ioanovich in 1591 in honor of the victory of the Russian troops during the campaign of the Crimean Khan Gaza Giray. It was erected on the site of the military camp of the detachment of Boris Godunov and the marching church of Sergius of Radonezh. The adjacent cemetery is small, but the burials are simply amazing.
