There is nothing more comforting than a home-baked casserole. They are simple to throw together and can be filled with literally any of your favorite meats, grains, and vegetables. It can easily feed a crowd, Casseroles can be enjoyed year-round, but there is really something special about making them during the fall and winter seasons.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do!

Tuna Casserole
Step One | White Sauce
1/4 cup | unsalted butter
1 cup | chopped white onion
1/3 cup | flour
4 cup | cold milk
1 cup | grated white cheddar cheese
1/2 tsp | worcestershire sauce
1 tsp | chicken powder
1/2 tsp | cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp | salt
1/2 tsp | black pepper

Step Two | Mix-ins
12 oz | egg noodles
16 oz | canned tuna
1 cup | frozen peas

Step Three | Topping
1 cup | bread crumb (plain or with Italian seasoning)
1/4 cup | white cheddar cheese (grated)
1/4 cup | parmesan cheese (grated)
1/2 cup | melted butter


Method
Step One
Saute the onions with butter in a large pot until they start to turn golden, it takes around 4-5 minutes
Add the flour and cook on low heat for a few minutes, this will get rid of the raw flour taste and brings a nutty flavor to the sauce
Pour in the cold milk all at once, not gradually
Bring to boil on high heat while whisking
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low until the sauce thickens
Season with the seasonings list above

Step Two
Bring water to a rapid boil in a large pot
Cook the egg noodles one minute less than the time suggested on the packet instructions
Drain well

Step Three
Add the noodles, drained tuna, and thawed peas to the white sauce
Pour the mixture into a 9" by 12" baking dish

Step Four
Mix bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, white cheddar cheese and melted butter in a small pan until combined and the texture resembles wet sand
Sprinkle evenly over the casserole

Step Five
Bake at 350º F for 30 minutes or until browned and bubbly
Let it sit for 10 minutes before cutting and serving
