EASTER

No longer in Joseph's garden tomb
The dark, secluded room,
Where Love went to rest,
Seeming in human eyes to be
Equally unloved by men and unblest
Of Love, for His death on Calvary.

The suffering of that death is past;
Its memory will last
Beyond the mighty span
Of centuries, with Love the One,
Who, caring sufficiently for human
Sins, let Himself on the Cross atone.

Sunday morning's sunrise brought a change,
And something past the range
Of comprehension. They
Who saw Him laid to rest as dead,
After the awful shame of Calvary,
Saw Him raised alive on Easter day.
