On this occasion, I present a video showing the traditional Batak Toba tradition, namely mangokal holi (dismantling / digging and removing the bones) of our oppung boru (grandmother) who has been dead for approximately 8 years. In this Mangokal holi ceremony, our grandmother's grave was excavated or dismantled to retrieve the remains of her bones and moved them to be combined with the bodies of our Opung Doli (grandfather) who were buried separately. The implementation of the Mangokal Holi Tradition is not an arbitrary tradition. Mangokal Holi is a traditional death ceremony that costs a lot of money. This is because the Mangokal Holi Tradition must be carried out in accordance with Batak customs.

This traditional mangokal holi procession takes approximately 2 days and requires a large amount of funds. But even so, for us Batak people this is a form of respect for our parents and ancestors. Because it is a tradition for us Batak people, who are already economically established, especially those who are successful overseas, to set aside money, build a beautiful final resting house for parents or a house for the ancestors. The family who held Mangokal Holi had to entertain the entire extended family and neighbors of the village. Even in the implementation of this ceremony, buffalo meat or beef is served.

So this Mangokal Holi Ceremony aims to get Hagabean, Hasangapon and Hamoraon (long life, honor, and wealth). Although times are constantly changing, this sacred tradition or ritual is still maintained today. @Opung NC
