Face Jams: Live at the Caricature Stand
Track #12: Carefree (feat. Brian Oakes’ wife)
In an ideal world, caricatures can help people feel LESS self-conscious about how they look after coming to terms with their actual image instead of a distorted self-image that most people have. This distorted self-image tends to be a false one that can either be one of intentional ignorance (refusing to accept or acknowledge how they look) and/or one of feeling inadequate and unattractive (despite their own unique beauty). If people allow themselves to accept their own appearance and learn to laugh at themselves instead of seeing their image as being their be-all, end-all identity and only value as a human, they can realize that there are much more important things in life like personality, how you treat and interact with others, the power of the mind, and working on the inner self. Brian Oakes' wife Dawn is a good friend of mine and really rocked this song! Overall I was going for the vibe of "Hey Mickey" meets "Love Shack" (hence the B-52s' guy's voice) meets "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" meets a little bit of Vampire Weekend. One of the funnest, lightest songs on the album, I think 😊

Lyrics:
VERSE 1:
One day I got drawn, and it changed my life.
I was shocked at first cuz I’m a good housewife.
I used to believe that life was all about looks-
That caricature changed my whole outlook!
I once was a girl that lived in the mirror,
But after I got drawn my image became clearer.
I loosened up slowly and worked on my skillz-
Now i don’t hafta use my looks to pay the bills!

CHORUS:
Carefree now that I’ve been drawn funny!
I used to be self-obsessed with selfies-
Now I can be self-aware and happy!

POST-CHORUS (2x):
Fuck your selfies!
Work on yourself!
Fuck your selfies!
Start to work on yourself!

VERSE 2:
I don’t need all this makeup to still look good.
I don’t need to go out and grind on strange wood.
I don’t really need this selfie stick for selfies-
I can take prettier photos of the world around me!
There’s more to life than looking great.
I’m perfect the way I am, so get that straight!
It’s ok to laugh at yourself.
You better believe it, girl- it’s good for your health!

BRIDGE:
Carefree,
I’m aware of me.
I’m aware I’m funny-looking,
And that makes me sexy!
Happy,
Cuz I’m finally free
From the prison of my image-
I no longer worry!

CHORUS (2x)

POST-POST-CHORUS (4x):
Carefree
Work on yourself!
Fuck your selfies!
Start to work on yourself!
