Edinson Roberto Cavani Gómez (Salto, 14 febbraio 1987) è un calciatore uruguaiano, attaccante del Napoli e della Nazionale uruguaiana.
In Uruguay, ad inizio carriera, era soprannominato El Botija (termine gergale uruguaiano con cui si indica un bambino) per via dei lineamenti infantili e del fisico fragile ed esile. Successivamente inizia ad essere soprannominato El Matador.
Di origini italiane e in possesso del passaporto italiano poiché il nonno paterno, che aveva lavorato in Sicilia, era originario di Maranello, trascorre l'infanzia giocando al confine con l'Argentina fino a quando, a dodici anni, si trasferisce a Montevideo, capitale uruguaiana. Entra così nel settore giovanile del Danubio, una delle dodici squadre di calcio della città.
Anche suo padre Luis è stato un calciatore: soprannominato El Gringo, ha giocato in squadre uruguaiane di prima divisione e conta qualche presenza in Nazionale; in seguito è divenuto allenatore, guidando l'altro figlio Christian, difensore del Salto. Suo fratellastro maggiore, Walter Guglielmone, è anch'egli un calciatore, di ruolo attaccante.

Di fervente fede cristiana evangelica pentecostale, il 9 giugno 2007 si è sposato con Maria Soledad dalla quale ha avuto due figli: il primogenito Bautista, nato il 22 marzo 2011,e Lucas, nato l'8 marzo 2013.

Edinson Roberto Cavani Gómez (born 14 February 1987) is a Uruguayan footballer who plays as a forward for Napoli and the Uruguayan national team. A very prolific goalscorer, Cavani is well known for ability to score impressive goals and his tireless work-rate. In 2012, Cavani was listed 10th in The Guardian 's list of The 100 best footballers in the world.
Cavani began his career playing for Danubio in Montevideo, where he played for two years, before moving to Italian side Palermo in 2007. He spent four seasons at the club, scoring 34 goals in 109 league appearance. In 2010, Cavani signed for Napoli, who signed him on an initial loan deal before buying him for a total fee €17 million. In the 2011--12 season, he won his first club honour, the Coppa Italia, in which he was top scorer with 5 goals. With Napoli, Cavani went on to score 33 goals each in his first two seasons.
Cavani is a Uruguayan international and made his debut and scored against Colombia on 6 February 2008. He has since participated in two major tournaments, the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2011 Copa América. He scored once at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, to help Uruguay to fourth place in the tournament. He went on to win the 2011 Copa América with Uruguay, being part of the Uruguay squad, that won a record 15th Copa América title.
Cavani was born in Salto, Uruguay's second largest city, on 14 February 1987, to Berta Gomez and Luis Cavani. He has an elder brother, Walter Guglielmone whom plays for Beijing BIT as a striker and younger brother, Christian Cavani, whom is also a footballer.Cavani is married to Maria Soledad Cabris with whom he has two sons, Bautista (born 22 March 2011) and Lucas (born 8 March 2013) He is a devout Christian and a member of the Evangelical church. Growing up he idolised Argentine striker Gabriel Batistuta.
