The acoustics at MBS are not great for announcements. So here is a transcript of what Dr. Tom Jackson said during the show:

"Keep your seats everyone… the Redcoats are coming!”

“Perhaps today’s most influential musician, the artist behind this evening’s first two selections is best known by first name alone—Beyoncé. Introducing 'The Women of Pop' with a drum and flag prelude to her self-penned ‘Countdown,’ please welcome drum majors Rachel Anders, Greer Blackmon, Shannon O’Donnell, Kate Tabeling, and the University of Georgia Redcoat Band.”

“Beyoncé also co-wrote this 2011 hit, influenced by new jack swing and eighties R&B. Here is ‘Love on Top.’”

“Long an underground darling, former University of Houston marching band member Lizzo burst onto the music scene earlier this year. The Redcoats continue their recognition of women of pop with the debut single from Lizzo’s 2019 breakout album. This is ‘Juice.’”

“This 2017 club ballad is the vehicle for the Redcoats’ celebration of their own women of pop. Here are the women of Redcoats with Pink’s ‘What About Us.”

“Dolly Parton’s musical goodbye to Porter Wagoner is a rare example of an artist reaching number one twice with different recordings of the same song. Parton reportedly declined a deal for Elvis to record the song in exchange for partial ownership of it, walking away from near-certain millions in royalties. Her business savvy later became evident when Whitney Houston’s 1992 recording sat at number one for an amazing fourteen weeks. The Redcoats conclude by honoring two distinguished women of pop—Dolly Parton and the late Whitney Houston—with the source of the all-time best-selling female artist single: ‘I Will Always Love You.’”

“The Redcoat Band is under the direction of Brett Bawcum and Rob Akridge. Wind arrangements are by Tom Wallace, with percussion scoring by John Cypert, and drill design by Rob Akridge. Your announcer has been Tom Jackson. Thank you.”
