So Zynga dropped a new cinematic trailer for the new upcoming game Star Was Hunters a few days ago. And while I am not particularly interested in this particular project, I couldn’t help but wonder if this was going to be canon or not. Judging by the trailer the sheer number of creative and at time comical character designs, as well as a potentially lore break scene, I was skeptical that it was going to be considered canon in the grand scheme of things. But hey it looks like I was wrong.

Star Wars Hunters is in fact confirmed to be canon, at least from what I have gathered. And the potentially lore breaking aspects of it, aren’t that lore breaking after all. The game is centered around the rocky planet of Vespaara which is the host of these gladiatorial games between individuals from all over the galaxy. This background obviously sets up the lore to facilitate the existence of the game within the star wars universe. In terms of timeline, the arena battles take place after the events of the return of the jedi, and according to the developers will feature a competitive spectator stadium that will see high-stakes, team based action.

So the setting aside, what about the characters? The game has featured a whole host of characters, and each of them have some amount of lore behind them.

First up we have Rieve. Featured heavily in the trailer, Rieve is described to be a practitioner in the dark side of the force, wielding a red lightsaber. Some of her abilities include swinging her lightsabers and throwing her lightsaber at her enemies. It's unclear as to whether or not she can use the force, or to what extent. While it has not been announced as to whether or not she is a sith, it's pretty unlikely given that she is a sith as it would throw in a lot of questions since there were presumed to be only one sith left following the return of the jedi. So it is more likely that this is a dark jedi or potentially an inquisitor. The character design would certainly fit that of an imperial inquisitor on the run following the collapse of the empire.

Next up we have Imara Vex, a mysterious bounty hunter wearing a helmet with a chip inside. Armed with a customised blaster and a shoulder-mounted weapon, it's pretty safe to assume that Imara Vex is just one of many bounty hunters in the star war galaxy.

There is also Zaina, a veteran of the rebel alliance and hero to the new republic. She is described to be a Han Solo-like character with fast reflexes and a pair of robot legs.

Part of the roster is a Wookie by the name of Gorzz, described to be a berzerker-like warrior who apparently likes to go on a rampage. The character design has appeared to set him up as a tank, armed with two clubs.

Aran Tal is a mandalorian bounty hunter. Equipped with blasters, a jet pack, and even a flamethrower, according to his description it is said that he has arrived at the arena to deal justice to the wicked.

Next up, we have the imperial called the Sentinel. Armed with what appears to be a massive minigun and a cracked stormtrooper planet, Sentinel has arrived at the arena to bring back the glory days of the empire. Somehow.

If you’ve seen the trailer, then Slingshot must have definitely caught your eye. Described as an adrenaline junkie joyrider, Slingshot is an ugnaut driving a modified droideka from the clone wars period. Able to zip around in combat and mow down enemies.

Then there’s Utooni, a pair of Jawa scavengers standing atop one another to pass off as a giant Jawa. Packed with a bunch of tricks and weapons, Utooni is a ranged combatant and demolition expert. It's a very curious character design, given that Utooni is a singular name given to two Jawas, perhaps as a way to really disguise themselves as one Jawa to intimidate others.

Finally we have J-3DI, a droid who thinks that it's a jedi. It’s not entirely clear if the droid has force powers, but it's pretty unlikely given that would break the lore massively. What is more likely is that the droid is either programmed or has had its programmed distorted to think that it is a jedi.

So whatever fleshed out story the game will have for these characters, they most certainty can be kept within the boundaries of canon. It remains to be seen how this will impact the star wars universe, or if any of these characters will crossover somewhere else. Nevertheless, since the game will be coming out for free, I will be checking it out for sure. That’s all for this video be sure to like and subscribe.
