Histrionic personality disorder is a pattern of excessive emotionality and attention-seeking behavior.

This condition can create difficulty in making connections and a feeling of alienation when the person is not at the center of attention. This can create an environment in which the person will take extreme measures to meet their needs. This can not only create difficulties in forming a strong sense of self but also further isolate the person from creating meaningful relationships.

Symptoms of histrionic personality disorder may include constant attention-seeking, excessive or dramatic displays, emotions which appear shallow and/or rapidly changing, a high level of concern with physical features and appearance, and a misperception of closeness in relationships. There is often a sexual or provocative element, which may look like excessive flirtation or acting in a sexually inappropriate manner.

At Lightfully Behavioral Health, we realize the importance of having a common language to describe symptoms the individual might be experiencing. Even so, we see our clients as more than just their diagnoses. Clients can expect an integrated and inclusive treatment plan from an exceptionally equipped team that focuses on the core processes which underlie their symptoms and all human suffering. In this way, we work to help the client develop an integrated self and a more balanced, meaningful life.
